EMBO YIP Conference: “Physics of Life”

The EMBO YIP Conference is the second international meeting to be held in the vicinity of Birzeit University, on April 23-24, 2019.

In 2010, the Faculty of Science co-organized a Birzeit-EMBO YIP student workshop entitled “Frontiers in Molecular Biology” held in Palestine. It was a great success, and the meeting attracted more than 100 masters and undergraduate students from across Palestine. Our partners in Europe are looking for ways to promote research and training across the Physics and Life Science interface internationally. Notable international scientists and scholars will participate in this year’s conference to enrich the meeting which targets students from all scientific backgrounds.

At the event, we aim to identify common interests that can form the basis for collaborative interactions between Palestinian students/academics and EMBO and UCL scholars in the years to come.

Intended outcomes

  1. Identifying fundamental problems at the interface between Physics and Biology and new ways of tackling them.
  2. Developing better links with international academics.
  3. Establishing links between BZU, IPLS and EMBO YIPs working across the Physics/Biology divide.
  4. Inspiring local students to consider academic careers, and to apply for summer scholarships at UCL.
