Students explored Ramallah Municipality’s latest efforts to modernize the city’s infrastructure and digitize its services in a lecture led by Safa Dwaik, head of the municipality’s geographic and technology information systems, on Tuesday, April 23, 2019.

In this lecture, organized by the Department of Computer Science in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Dwaik outlined the areas of focus in the municipality’s strategy to make Ramallah a smart city and highlighted the progress that has been achieved so far. She added that the municipality works with private, public, and civil society institutions to make the city an environmentally sustainable technology hub.

The municipality, Dwaik explained, focuses on six main areas: education, governance, e-services, the environment, mobility, and the economy, with projects being established in cooperation with government agencies and private-sector organizations.

Dwaik also discussed Ramallah Municipality’s efforts to capture and organize geographic information and to disseminate it in applications and systems that benefit both residents and visitors of the city.
