Student Affairs celebrates Palestinian culture, heritage with rendition of ‘The Little Lantern’

The Deanship of Student Affairs at Birzeit University organized a rendition of the play “The Little Lantern,” an adaptation of the late Palestinian novelist Ghassan Kanafani’s short story of the same name.

The play, organized together with The Freedom Theatre, tells the tale of a king who on his death bed tells his only daughter, and the heiress to the throne, that she has to “bring the sun into the castle” − a reference to the people of the kingdom − to claim her queenship.

The play is part of a series of events organized by the Deanship of Student Affairs to celebrate Palestinian culture and heritage. The events, which include public lectures, symposia, film screenings, theatre plays, and traditional music performances, will be presented throughout the month of March 2019.
