Specialist explores modern approaches in finance

The Department of Finance and Banking at Birzeit University held on May 2, 2017 a round table to discuss the modern monetary theory. The financial expert Frank Ashe led the roundtable.

Ashe offered a short guide to modern monetary theory. He lighted the logical coherence of the system of fiat money and its differences from a gold standard theory of money.

He pointed out to the role of banks that always seeks to maintain its financial balance despite the different financial transactions they make every day. “Central banks will always have a national independence.” Central banks according to Ashe are separated from the governmental financial institutions.
