Series of activities mark olive-picking season

Birzeit University’s Deanship of Student Affairs held Mawasem, a series of artistic and cultural activities organized annually to celebrate the olive picking season.

This year’s events included Zawaya, an exhibition of handicrafts made by a group of creative youths; a book fair in cooperation with the library of Dar Al-Kalima University, Bethlehem; and a music showcase featuring the choir of the Children’s Cultural Center-Nablus Municipality.

Mohammad Al-Ahmed, the activities coordinator at the deanship, said that olive-picking season is an annual tradition at Birzeit University and in Palestine. “It has become a symbol of Palestinian culture and of the people’s steadfastness in face of the Israeli occupation and the ongoing violations of their rights and continual land grab,” he added.
