Publication of Dr. Magid Shihade’s Book: “Not Just a Soccer Game: Colonialism and Conflict among Palestinians in Israel”

Syracuse University Press recently published a book by Dr. Magid
Shihade entitled: “Not
Just a Soccer Game: Colonialism and Conflict among Palestinians in Israel.” Shihade is a faculty member at the Ibrahim Abu Lughod Institute of International
Studies. His research focuses on modernity, violence and identity, as well as
the anthropology and politics of knowledge. He has published several journal
articles and book chapters on these subjects.

This book sheds light on the growing problem of
internal conflicts and violence within the Palestinian community in Israel. It takes as a case study the soccer game between
two Palestinian villages, Kafr Yassif and Julis, which ended in a fight between
the fans, resulting in the killing of two people, one
from each village.
