Prominent microbiology professor leads lecture on environment, water conservation at Birzeit

Dr. Shaban Kotob lectures on conserving Palestinian environment by utilizing applied microbiology

Dr. Shaban Kotob, an Egyptian-American professor of environmental sciences, gave a lecture on environment and water resource conservation on Birzeit University’s campus on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. 

The lecture, organized by the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at Birzeit University and the Master’s Program in Environmental Biology, was followed by a meeting between Kotob and Dr. Khalid Swaileh, dean of the Faculty of Science, and a number of faculty members. 

Kotob, Swaileh, and the Faculty of Science professoriate explored possible channels of cooperation between Kotob’s companies – he is the founder of two companies in applied biotechnology –  and the master’s program, including internship opportunities and training programs. 

Kotob was formerly a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at the College of William and Mary and a Research Associate with the US Food & Drug Administration. Kotob earned a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, an MS in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, and a BS in Agriculture from University of Cairo, Egypt.
