Professor highlights Palestine's Political- Economy changes at International Studies Conference in Britain
The Director of the Center of Development Studies at Birzeit University Tariq Da'na presented a paper highlighting the political economy in the Occupied Palestinian Territories at the British International Studies Association's 42nd Annual Conference in Brighton- UK.
The three-day conference connected researchers and academics interested in discussing international current issues. Da'na took part in a round table entitled "Class and Capitalism in the Arab World" that explained the current conflicts in the Arab region, aiming to identify the importance of the political economy as mean to learn the current political, economic, social and class changes in the region.
The session focused on the interaction between the political and economic systems, and the local communities of Egypt, Lebanon, Palestine and the Gulf. Da'na put these interactions in a Palestinian context, especially after signing the Oslo Accord, focusing on the last decade (2007-2017) which have witnessed a number of reforms that opened the doors for economic elite to re-build new policies and the current social structures.
Da'na highlighted the interaction between political and economic elites in the context of state building amid the ongoing Israeli colonization.
