Physics Professor Attends Lindau Conference, Meets Nobel Laureates

Birzeit University’s Physics graduate and professor Sharif Ghithan participated along with 400 young scientists in the 66th Lindau Meeting hosted in the German Island Lindau between June 26 and July 1.

Twenty-nine Nobel laureates such as scientist William Philips, Stefan Hell and Hiroshi Amano met with the young scientists, who spent the week discussing central topics in the field of physics and scientific education.

The annual meeting at Lindau aims to provide more opportunities for youth to present their work in science, and enable greater exchange of ideas, knowledge and expertise through interactive panels.

Since its inception in 1951, the meetings have evolved into an interactive forum for dialogue between the generations.

Ghaithan is a Birzeit University graduate and was a physics professor in 2015-2016. He currently works at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, one of the world’s largest and most respected centers for scientific research.
