Newly-formed Student Council meets with university administration

‘We will continue to work hand in hand with the students,’ says President of the university Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh ​

Representatives of Birzeit University’s recently inaugurated Student Council met with Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh, the president of Birzeit University; Dr. Faisal Awadallah, the vice president for academic affairs; Dr. Mohammad Al Ahmad, the dean of student affairs; and Fadel Khaldi, assistant to the dean of student affairs, to discuss the formation of the Student Council. 

Abuhijleh commended the students’ efforts in democratically electing and proportionally forming the Student Council, and noted the significance of holding democratic, transparent elections.  

“The concerted efforts of the students and the administration to preserve the university’s atmosphere of democracy and pluralism have made the elections a success,” said Abuhijleh. “We will continue to work hand in hand with the students to affect positive change in the Palestinian community.” 

Yahya Rabi’, head of the Student Council, remarked that students will maintain connections with the administration and work to forge new ones, adding that sustaining the unity of Birzeit University’s community is one of the council’s top priorities. 

Birzeit University’s 2018/2019 Student Council was formed on Monday, June 4, 2018, on a proportional representation basis following the 2018 Student Council elections, which saw Al Wafaa’ Islamic Bloc winning a majority of the seats, claiming 24 out of 51 seats. The Martyr Yasser Arafat bloc secured 23 seats, and the Democratic Progressive Student Pole gained 4 seats.
