New course on Cultural Journalism supported by Ministry of Culture

As part of their support to the development of creativity and art, Birzeit University and the Palestinian Ministry of Culture will collaborate on developing a new course that will teach cultural journalism through the university’s Media Development Center. The course will be developed following a new agreement signed on April 4, 2019, by the university’s president Abdullatif Abuhijleh and the Culture Minister Ehab Bseiso.

Vice President for Community Affairs Asem Khalil, Director of the Media Development Center Nibal Thawabteh, and Lubna Abdel-Hadi and Tina Rafidi from the Public Relations Office attended the ceremony.

The new course is intended to enhance the skills of young journalists, helping them acquire a sense for current trends and developments in the cultural scene to become critical mediators between creative producers and a culturally interested audience. The course will be adopted by Palestinian universities that offer diplomas and bachelor programs in media and journalism.

President Abuhijleh praised the long-standing partnership between the university and the ministry, noting that it has always been active in supporting the cultural and artistic activities at Birzeit University.

Bseiso stressed the importance of enhancing the cultural role of Palestinian universities through offering courses, programs, and practical activities that expose students to new ways to present cultural issues in various media channels.
