Movie Retells Stories from WWII

The Political Science Department at Birzeit University and the Polish Representative Office in Palestine showcased on November 9, 2012 a historical movie inspired from the stories of the Polish army during World War II.

The movie re-told the story of the Polish army fighting in Persia, Egypt and Palestine and a bear that the soldiers found in the mountains. The soldiers captured the bear and named him “Wojtek," and he became something of a mascot for the soldiers.

Historian Tim Bucknall, a member of the Kresy-Siberia Foundation, attended the show and discussed the movie later with students, introducing the role of the foundation in preserving the history and experiences of Polish citizens fighting for freedom and survival in Eastern Poland and in exile during World War II.
