Media Development Center publishes a new book on geopolitics

The Media Development Center (MDC) at Birzeit University released a new book entitled “A Tour of the World’s Political Map.” The 108-page book, written by Aref Hijjawi, is filled with vibrant descriptions, maps, and photographs that explore each country from a different political starting point.

The book explains, in easy-to-understand terms, each country’s political history and the major events that still affect its present situation to this day. The book, despite delving into sensitive political situations, uses a neutral, impartial language that is necessary for the book’s guiding nature.

This book is part of a series of publications that the center has released for over 20 years to enrich the Palestinian book collection, especially in the field of media and related disciplines. The series has published research papers, studies, courses, training guides, and media and radio productions.

MDC Director Nibal Thawabteh said that this extended edition, printed by the Center with funding from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), is published as part of an agreement with Hijjawi, who originally published the book in cooperation with Al-Jazeera Media Institute.

In the extended edition of the book, Hijjawi added information on the Palestinian political situation that would be of use to journalists and professionals in the local Palestinian media.

“The purpose of this book,” writes Hijjawi in the introduction of the book, “is to be a source of useful information and to draw attention to issues in politics and geography. It is mainly aimed at journalists.”
