MDC graduates students of business and economic journalism course

Birzeit University’s Media Development Center (MDC) concluded the second stage of the  Business and Economic Journalism course with the graduation of 26 participants on December 5, 2019. The 125-hour course is funded and supported by the Arab Fund for Ecnonmic and Social Development (AFESD).

The graduation ceremony featured Azzam Shawwa, governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA), Abdullatif Abuhijleh, president of Birzeit University, and Buthayna Alsemeiri, the project manager at MDC.

Shawwa emphasized that journalists must demonstrate courage, objectivity and analytical skills in carrying out their assignments. He praised the university’s distinguished role in contributing to the development of Palestinian journalism and stressed the importance of improving the quality of economy-related journalism in Palestine.

During his opening remarks, Abuhijleh stressed that Birzeit University is engaged in efforts to make the university a more inclusive place with respect to the academic fields and the courses it offers for both its students and guests from other universities who wish to attend special classes. Abuhijleh assured that courses on topics such as business and economic journalism help graduates find employment and embark on successful careers. He also mentioned the university’s intention of sharing the course with other educational institutions in Palestine.

Alsemeiri explained that Birzeit University offers special independent courses to bridge gaps between the outcomes of the education system and the needs of the job market.
