Law students discuss extent, effect of international anti-torture regulations

Twenty-three law students at Birzeit University learned laws and legislation related to the criminalization of torture in a workshop held together with the Center for Defense of Liberties and Civil Rights - “Hurryyat,” on Wednesday, December 19, 2018.

Led by Hilmi Al-Araj, the center’s director; Suzan Bolos, the center’s program director; and Aref Amarneh, the center’s media coordinator, the workshop introduced students to the definition of torture, under the United Nations Convention against Torture, and methods of torture documentation, as per the Istanbul Protocol.

Additionally, the workshop conveners discussed the relevant Palestinian anti-torture laws, and the extent to which they adhere to international conventions and treaties.
