Idea Factory discusses societal, individual needs

The Idea Factory at Birzeit University has held its first brainstorming meeting in its fourth session on March 1, 2018.

The brainstorming meeting began with a reading of the short story, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” by American author Ursula Guin. The story explores a utopian society which lives a life of utmost happiness and joy. This state, however, stems from the constant misery and unhappiness of a single child.

The reading was followed by a group discussion on the themes and motifs of the short story, and how it fits into actual, real-life events witnessed by the participants.

The Idea Factory is a student initiative established at Birzeit University in 2014 under the Windsor Birzeit Dignity Initiative and constitutes a part of Birzeit University’s mission to develop and advance the Palestinian community.
