Department of Accounting honors the academic achievements of its students

The Department of Accounting at Birzeit University celebrated the academic excellence of its students in a ceremony held on Saturday, March 9, 2019.

“Such achievements pave the way for greater success in your professional careers,” asserted Samia Al-Botmeh, dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, congratulating the 158 students who were recognized in the university’s biannual Honor List.

Yousef Hassan, chair of the Department of Accounting, expressed pride in the levels of academic excellence and distinction displayed by the students. He mentioned that the department has recently celebrated the lifelong achievements of accounting professors Adnan Humos, Nidal Sabri, and Mirabo Shammas whose combined years of service to Birzeit University’s community amount to more than 45 years.

Shammas, in his welcoming remarks, highlighted that the department now offers Auditing and Risk Management as a concentration. “This newly-developed concentration,” he noted, “allows the university to meet the needs and requirements of local, regional, and international organizations and prepares the students for international accounting certificates.”

Celine Murrar, the ceremony valedictorian, thanked professors and instructors for their help during the semester. She encouraged her fellow classmates to challenges themselves academically and to aspire to be a force of positive change in Palestine.
