BZU, Turkey to deepen academic cooperation

The Representative of Turkey in Palestine, Gürcan Türkoğlu, applauded the academic and research development of Birzeit University, which has the potential for wide-ranging impact, for both students and the Palestinian community.

The representative’s remarks came during his meeting with Birzeit University President Dr. Abdullatif Abuhijleh, his Assistant Dr. Aziz Shawabkeh, Dean of Graduate Studies Dr. Talal Shahwan, and Director of the External Academic Relations Dr. Amir Khalil, on October 10, 2017.

Türkoğlu underscored the added value that the QS World University Ranking brought to the reputation of Birzeit University worldwide. The QS World Ranking is one of the three prominent rankings in the world. Birzeit is now among the top 3% of the world’s best universities.

Türkoğlu said that Birzeit has made its mark among higher education institutions. “Birzeit is known for its quality education and research among its peers in Turkey. We look forward to further foster our cooperation.”

President Abuhijleh said that Birzeit is now a university recognized worldwide, that offers academic programs and promotes regenerative and evolutionary development, in a complex, diverse and changing world.

Abuhijleh assured that Birzeit seeks to develop a wide network of partnerships with world universities, and methodologies that promote multiculturalism such as through exchange, research cooperation, and the teaching of foreign languages such as Turkish at the university.

During the visit, Abuhjileh also informed the Turkish representative about the University’s recent accomplishment in technology: “The Palestine- India Techno Park became a full-time member of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP), which is a leading global network for science parks and areas of innovation.”

Prior to his meeting, Türkoğlu met with students in a university Turkish language course and observed a class in Turkish.
