BZU, Environment Quality Authority to develop research capacity, encourage environmental education

Birzeit University, represented by its president, Abdullatif Abuhijleh, and the Environmental Quality Authority, represented by its president, Adala Al-Atireh, created on September 19, 2017, a new agreement to cooperate on environmental protection. The parties signed an understanding that maps routes to greater participation in environmental research and advocacy for youth in environmental protection.

This cooperation includes working on scientific and environmental engineering research, in addition to conducting different laboratory experiments and studies devoted to identifying measures to save the environment.

The signing ceremony was attended by Vice President for Community Affairs Asim Khalil, and Director of the Institute of Environmental and Water Studies Rashed Al Saed, in addition to a number of representatives from the Institute and Authority.

President Abuhijleh reaffirmed the university’s recognition of its role in environmental protection, alluding to the importance of collaborative work with the community and relevant organizations to plan and put into action strategies and projects to protect and preserve the environment.

Al-Atireh pledged that both parties will work to prepare a specialized awareness program targeting teachers and school and university students.  The program will promote environmental education, in addition to organizing conferences, relevant exhibitions, and other activities that aim to promote and support environmental protection.

“It is our duty to provide an environment that supports the health, well-being, dignity, and prosperity of everyone. It is one of our basic and national rights that we aim to maintain.”

A Joint Coordination Committee, comprised of academics and experts, will be established to follow up with the implementation process.
