Birzeit University tops local institutions, ranks 2nd Among Arabs in Arabic debating championship

Birzeit University students add another accolade, ranking first among Palestinians, second among Arabs and the fourth among the world’s universities in the Fourth International Universities Arabic Debating Championship in Qatar.

The five-day championship brought together 84 universities from 46 Arab and foreign countries with 87 teams competing for the title. The International Universities Arabic Debating Championship aims at spreading the culture of constructive dialogue in the world and enhancing the status of the Arabic language through debate.

Students Omran Tamimi, Amjad Abu Lafi, Yasmine Khamis and Dalia Hamayel supervised by the head of the political science department Abdel Rahman Haj Ibrahim, sparkled in the five phases of the championship. They competed with the teams of Malaysia and Qatar in the semi-finals.
