Birzeit University Theater Group performed new black comedy

 A new production for Birzeit University’s Mawasem Theatre Group was presented at the university entitled “Steal less, please!” A trial performance was presented on May 24, 2017 and the main opening on May 29, 2017 at Kamal Nasir Hall.

The play is part of a novel written by the Nobel prize-winning Italian playwright Dario Fo. It is a black comedy with sarcastic dialogues, and exciting and surprising events.  The play tackles the issues of corruption in societies and governments in a bold and artistic way.

Mawasem Group was created in 1982, as the university’s official theatre group that is related directly to the Deanship of Student Affairs. Mawasem was revived in 2013 and presented a number of performances including The House of Bernarda Alba,” a play written by Spanish Dramatist Federico Garcia Lorca and directed by Fathi Abdul Rahman. 

 Theatre Group- Mawasem won five Awards for their performance in “The House of Bernarda Alba” play in the 12th Philadelphia Arab Universities Theater Festival, held in Philadelphia University- Amman, Jordan.

The Dean of Student Affairs Mohammad Al Ahmad said that the university is committed to encourage our students to be involved in activities that enhance their creativity and open their perspectives.
