QS World University Rankings

In 2019, the university maintained its excellence in research and teaching, and was ranked by QS World University Rankings – in their 2019 edition – in the 801-1000 range, which included universities from 85 countries. Birzeit University has retained its position as the top university in Palestine for the fifth consecutive year, and was ranked among the best 50 universities in the Arab region according to the 2019 QS Arab Region University Rankings. Only four Palestinian universities were included in the list.

In 2018, QS University Rankings featured the very first Palestinian university in its 2018 World Rankings, as Birzeit University outranked its national peers, ranked 38th in the Arab world, and broke into the top 3% of universities worldwide. This comes on the heels of QS choosing Birzeit University as one of the leading 100 Arab universitiesfor the third time consecutively.

For the past four consecutive years, Birzeit University has been consistently ranked as one of the best 100 universities in the Arab world and the leading university in Palestine.

QS World University Rankings, published annually both in regional and international formats by Quacquarelli Symonds – a leading British company specializing in higher education – is one of the top three most respected international university rankings. It is based on benchmarks that reflect each university’s educational standards, research efforts, and influence both locally and internationally.

The international format of QS Rankings includes the top 3% of universities worldwide, which amount to approximately 950 universities chosen from over 26,000 institutions spread globally. The Arab Region Rankings, on the other hand, contains the best 100 higher education institutions in the Arab world, chosen from over 1000 universities.

Birzeit University was first featured in QS Rankings in 2015, where it placed as the top Palestinian university and in the 61-70 range in the Arab world.

Birzeit University kept its stature as the leading Palestinian university in 2016, and jumped 11 places to rank 50th overall in the Arab world.

In keeping with its mission and vision, Birzeit University increased its research and academic efforts in the following years, and in the 2018 QS World University Rankings, it leapfrogged into the 38th place in the Arab region rankings, broke into the top 3% higher education institutions worldwide, and remained the foremost Palestinian university.
