In this level focus is on pieces in compound meters, and the rhythms of nearby cultures, such as Turkish, Kurdish and Iranian music. Playing pieces in forms of other cultures, such as the Iranian Jahar Madrab and the Sama’irhythmic improvising in compound meters and learning non-Arabic maqams and appropriate styles of playing these variations. Maqam and rhythmic analysis of non-Arabic musical genres, and practical composing in Longa and Doulab forms; building maqam improvisations and maqam modulation in Egyptian style.
