In this level focus is on pieces in compound meters, such as the forms Sama’i, and the work of contemporary composers such as Khaled Mohammad Ali, Charbel Rohana and Marcel Khalife; accompaniment of Oriental songs and Muwashahat; ythmic and free-time improvising in maqams such as saba and ajam, and connecting 3 or more maqams through free-time improvisation. Development of melodic structure and maqam analysis in historical music, and through that the simulation of these styles as an introduction to composing.
