The Community of Mediterranean Universities (CMU), founded in 1983, is a NGO partner of UNESCO with a consultative status with over 160 members.
The CMU aims to:
- reaffirm and develop the role and function of culture, technological and scientific research in order to contribute to the solution of difficult and complex problems created by the development of the countries of the Mediterranean Area;
- promote scientific cooperation among Mediterranean universities, using the experiences and resources of each university, while respecting the differences and the features of each nationality ;
- Set up permanent links among the member universities through the mutual exchange of scientific and cultural experience and information of teaching among staff and students;
- Set up links among CMU and economic, industrial and local Institutions in the countries where at least one university is adhering.
