Students celebrate Chinese Moon Festival

Students enrolled in Birzeit University’s Chinese language course celebrated the Chinese Moon Festival, also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival, reading famous old poems and singing traditional songs about the moon in a recorded video.

Originally, the Chinese Moon Festival was an outdoor event of thanksgiving, celebrated after strenuous farm labor. Today, it is a gathering of friends and families who meet to enjoy a shared dinner and moon cakes.

The Chinese language course, which can be taken as an elective, is part of the Department of Languages and Translation’s forty-four courses and nine academic programs and among its most popular classes. In the ongoing fall semester of the academic year 2020–21, it is taught to 191 students enrolled in four sections.
