Online workshop on using online resources to learn Hebrew

Birzeit University’s master’s program in Israeli Studies held an online workshop titled “Using open-source application to learn Hebrew” on June 24, 2020, featuring Tareq Al Saman, a Hebrew instructor.

Students from the Israeli Studies program, along with students and professors from Lebanon and Algeria, participated in the workshop.

Munir Fakher Eldin, director of the Israeli Studies master’s program, clarified that the workshop presented the basics on how to learn Hebrew through online resources. He stressed the importance of taking advantage of digital technology, adding that the COVID-19 locked down has enticed us to use open-source applications to break our isolation and communicate effectively with the Arab world.

Al Saman presented a number of helpful websites and mobile applications that teach language basics. These applications, Al Saman asserted, address the language’s terminology and pronunciation, provide online exercises, and use interactive learning methods that make it easy for students to learn a new language.

Learning Hebrew, Al Saman further explained, is important for students who are interested in exploring language in their research.

This is workshop is part of a series of events organized online during the COVID-19 lockdown by the Israeli Studies program, tackling political, cultural, religious, and economic issues.
