Birzeit University looks into cooperation with University of Texas in geosciences

Palestinian businessman Munib Al-Masri and a delegation from the University of Texas at Austin comprising Belle German, the director of development and alumni relations, and Sharon Mosher, the dean of the School of Geosciences, visited Birzeit University on January 15, 2020, to discuss prospects of research and academic cooperation.

Al-Masri and the delegation met with the head of the university’s board of trustees, Hanna Nasir, university president Abdullatif Abuhijleh, and the director of the External Academic Relations Office, Amir Khalil. Both parties expressed their interest in fostering academic cooperation.

Abuhijleh expressed his enthusiasm regarding a potential cooperation with the University of Texas that will produce concrete benefits for Palestinian students, staff and faculty members by providing both exchange and research opportunities in geosciences. He introduced the university’s history, achievements and awards to the delegation and emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining its position as the best Palestinian university and one of the prominent international higher education institutions.

Al-Masri described Birzeit University as prestigious, pointing out its impressive history of academic and research excellence.

Both German and Mosher expressed their interest in offering exchange opportunities for students and faculty members from Birzeit University to study geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin, focusing on various topics such as water, the environment, climate change, and more.
