Teachers, continuing education staff draw plans for new stage of learning objects program

The Center for Continuing Education at Birzeit University, together with the Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education, held a workshop on implementing the center’s experiential learning objects in 20 upper school that have incorporated the specially-designed lessons into their curricula.

The workshop, held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, included a team of teachers and superintendents who, along with staff from the Center for Continuing Education, explored the best methods to integrate the learning objects within classes.

Over 100 schools have agreed to include learning objects in their curricula since the project was launched in February of 2018, with plans drawn up to continue and improve upon the implementation in the spring semester of the current school year.

Osama Mimi, head of the Learning Innovation Unit at the Center for Continuing Education, said the center is constantly working to develop learning objects for all grades in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, adding that such a project will allow Palestine to export creative, 21st century educational models that improve life skills in the region.

Khitam Sukar, head of the principal training department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, emphasized the importance of such initiatives that review and advance educational strategies within Palestine, noting learning objects will be gradually introduced in schools in all Palestinian governorates.

Birzeit University’s Center for Continuing Education, through the learning objects and other similar development projects, seeks to develop the National Bank for Learning Objects, which will serve all grades. The learning objects bank is considered one of the most pioneering learning projects, both nationally and regionally, with hopes that the project can be exported to regional education partners after a successful pilot in Palestine.
