Claudia Chaufan

Chaufan is Associate Professor of Health Policy and Global Health at York University in Toronto. She received an MD in her native Argentina and a PhD in Sociology in the United States. Her research and intellectual interests include the politics of health and global health, the medicalization of social problems, critical genomics, capitalist globalization, colonialism/imperialism, power/discourse and the scholarship of teaching and learning. She teaches about, and has published on, these topics, in the International Journal of Health Services, in Social Science & Medicine, and in Critical Public Health, is editorial board member and reviewer of several academic journals and is a long-time supporter of many anticolonial groups opposing Western intervention in the Global South.
