Media Department Launches New Computer Center

The Media Department at Birzeit University inaugurated a new computer center, generously funded by the Palestinian businessman Adeeb Al- Bakri and the Ajyal Radio Network.

The launch ceremony was attended by the President of the University, Abedellatif Abu Hijleh; Adeeb Al-Bakri; the Director of Ajyal Network, Waleed Nassar; the Dean of Student Affairs, Mohammad Al Ahmad; the Head of the Media Department, Jumane Qunnaisse; and department students and faculty.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Abu Hijleh thanked Al-Bakri for his generosity, noting that the new computer center will help to alleviate the shortage of equipment that has taken its toll on the Broadcast and TV Media students. He also thanked the Ajyal Network for its continuing support for media students, whether by funding the new computer center or providing training and job opportunities.

Al-Bakri commended the university’s role as an academic leader in Palestine, and noted that his donation is part of the bigger social responsibility that Palestinian businesspeople have toward Palestinian youth, especially in the educational field.

Qunnasisse highlighted the record time in which the computer center was built and furnished to meet the needs of the growing number of students in the department. She said, “The center was built at a total cost of $20,000, which was donated by Mr. Al-Bakri, and it houses twenty computers, each set up with the required software for media students’ use.”
