The Palestinian National Orchestra, conducted by Vincent de Kort, performed on Saturday 12, August 2017 at Naseeb Azeez Shaheen Auditorium in Birzeit University.

About the Palestine Youth Orchestra

The Palestine Youth Orchestra (PYO) was created in 2004 by the ESNCM with the vision of bringing together young Palestinian musicians from around the world. The orchestra can rightly claim today that it is a quality national youth orchestra on a par with similar ensembles worldwide. Over the past ten years it has performed in Palestine, Germany, Jordan, Syria, Bahrain, Lebanon, Greece, France, Italy and the United Kingdom.

The PYO comprises around eighty young musicians of Palestinian origin residing around the world who are between 14 and 26 years of age, and are able to perform on an orchestral instrument to a standard of at least grade 7 (ABRSM).

Vincent de Kort

After a successful career as a cellist in 1995,  Kort, at the invitation of Mariss Jansons, made his debut conducting the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. His breakthrough followed in 1997 when he stepped in at the last minute for Gennady Rozhdestvensky with the European Union Youth Orchestra (soloist Radu Lupu) at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. This rapidly led to further engagements, he has since then been invited by a number of prominent Opera houses and orchestras.

Vincent de Kort has established himself among the finest Mozart conductors. He is jury chairman of the highly popular TV program MAESTRO, he was principal guest conductor of the Zürich Symphony Orchestra and was music director and founder of the international chamber orchestra European Sinfonietta as well as the Opera Festival Alden Biesen in Belgium.
