Birzeit University Welcomes New PAS Students

Birzeit University received on June 14, 2017 a new cohort of international students at the Palestinian and Arab Studies Program (PAS); an academic program that offers international students the opportunity to learn the Arabic language and Palestinian culture.

The Director of the PAS introduced the students to the courses and activities that program offers, assuring that in the PAS program "does not only teach Arabic but live it". She emphasized on the importance of developing sustainable strategies for attracting international students to the university, assuring that it is a vital investment that will yield many benefits for the program, the university and our community.

According to the Financial and Administrative Coordinator at the PAS Rasha Qassis, more than 40 students are enrolled in the program. Most of them are from the United States and some are from different European countries.

Qassis pointed out the enrolled students are specialized in political science, and Arabic studies, and are masters or PhD holders/ students.

The Public Relations Office talked about the history of Birzeit University and its academic programs. Members at the Right to Education Campaign spoke about the university’s history and the constraints imposed by the Israeli occupation on education in Palestine.
