Financial Aid & Scholarships (Undergraduates)

A number of scholarships from the University and private sources are made available each year to outstanding and needy students. These cover part, or all, of tuition and lodging fees. Further aid is available in the form of work scholarships and interest-free loans.

Scholarships

The University offers financial assistance for students in hardship and those who excel academically through the following programs:

1. Scholarships for Honor List Students

In order to encourage academic excellence amongst the student body, the University exempts all students posted on the Honor List at the end of any one semester from academic fees pertaining to the following semester.

2. Merit-Based Scholarships for GSEC students

These scholarships cover full tuition fees and are given to 48 top students in the General Secondary Education Certificate (GSEC) under the auspices of the Palestinian Ministry of higher Education. The scholarships are equally divided amongst male and female students in the two GSEC streams of Science and Art, and the students' home districts. They are assigned to the students by the University upon admission for the full period of their course work provided the student maintains a cumulative average of 80% and above.

3. Special Scholarships

A number of scholarships are made available to the University on annual basis by individuals and organizations and are distributed to needy students in accordance with the special conditions of each scholarship.

4. Work-Study Scholarships

Students with hardship who are able to maintain a cumulative average of 75% and above may seek employment in the University's various facilities and may work up to ten hours per week.

5. Faculty and Staff of Birzeit University

Sons and daughters of faculty and staff members at the university are exempted from full tuition fees for the duration of their course work provided the parent is in full employment during that period.

Loans

With the assistance of various philanthropic organizations, the Palestinian Ministry of higher Education provides the university with interest-free loans for students with financial difficulties. The number of recipients is determined at the beginning of each academic year. This form of financial aid is available to students at the beginning of the second semester after their admission to the University and as long as they are able to maintain a cumulative average of 65% and above.

The following regulations apply to all students who benefit from financial assistance from the University or any other body:
