Recording of Grades (Undergraduates)

Courses grades must be filled in special forms signed by the instructor and approved by the Department Committee before being sent by the head of department to the Admission and Registration Department for recordkeeping. All grades are entered into University records according to the internal University regulations regarding the matter.

Grading Evaluation

Students are evaluated by the faculty according to the nature of the course and the internal regulations of the various departments. The final exam must account for 30-50 % of the final grade and the rest is assigned for coursework and monthly exams. Course work includes research work, homework and quizzes as the instructor sees fit.

The academic achievement of a student for a specific course is rated as follows:

85-100% Excellent

78-84% Very Good

73-77% Good

69-72% Fair

60-68% Satisfactory

Below 60% Fail (fail grade is specified as 50% or 55%)

Non-credit courses are graded with "P" for Pass and "F" for Fail, and they are not included in the student averages.

If a student withdraws from one or more courses in a semester or from the University (by withdrawing from all courses), the courses grade on the transcript appear as “W” or “WP” or “WF” in accordance with the regulations pertaining to withdrawal from courses or withdrawal from the University.

“WF” is equivalent to a 50% grade, while courses with “W” and “WP” are not considered in the calculation of student averages.

Calculating Student Averages

1. Semester Average: A student's average in the semester is calculated by dividing the total number of points (grade x credit hours for each course) earned in the semester by the number of credit hours completed in that semester.

2. Cumulative Average: A student's cumulative average is calculated by dividing the total number of points earned by the total number of credit hours completed. The evaluation of a student's degree at the time of graduation is based on this result. For repeated courses, only the last grade is considered in the average calculation and all preceding grades for the same course are ignored. The last grade also decides the student performance in the course for the purpose of fulfillment of graduation requirements.

3. Cumulative Average in the Major: The cumulative average in the major is calculated by dividing the total number of points earned in departmental requirements for the specialization by the total number of credit hours considered. It does not include points for faculty and university requirements.

For repeated courses, only the last grade is considered in the average calculation and all preceding grades for the same course are ignored. The last grade also decides the student performance in the course for the purpose of fulfillment of graduation requirements.

If a student studies a course in his specialization in lieu of an elective course, the grade for this course must be included in the cumulative major average calculation.
