Probation and Dismissal
1. Probation
A student is issued probation by a department or program of the Faculty
if the student does not maintain a cumulative major average of 70% at
the end of a semester provided s/he is registered for at least 6 credit
hours of major requirements in that semester. Major requirements
include courses offered by the department or program as well as
supportive courses from other departments or programs.
2. Removal of Probation
Probation in the major is removed if a student raises his/her
cumulative major average to 70% and above in the following semester
provided s/he is registered for at least 6 credit hours of major
requirements. Otherwise, a second probation is issued.
3. Dismissal from Major
A student is dismissed from the department or Major program for one of the following reasons:
1. If the student is issued two consecutive probations from the department or major program;
2. If the student is issued a total of three non-consecutive probations from the department or major program.
Dismissal is irreversible when the cumulative major average of a
student falls below 65% in the semester the dismissal is issued in.
4. Conditions for Readmission to Major
Students must be informed of their dismissal in writing. The
notification of final dismissal must outline conditions and courses
that student must fulfill before being readmitted to the major. In all
cases, the reason that led to the dismissal must be removed before
readmission is granted.
