Faculty of Science: Overview

In 1972 the Faculty of Science was one of the first two faculties to be established in Birzeit University. In 1976, the Faculty graduated 25 students. Today over 900 students are enrolled in its various departments.

 The Faculty now offers Bachelor degrees in:

The Faculty of Science, in cooperation with a consortium of French Universities, developed an undergraduate program leading to a Bachelor degree in Mathematics Applied to Economics. The Faculty of Science also offers a Master Degree in Computational Sciences, Applied Statistics and Clinical Laboratory Sciences.

One of the Faculty's major income-generating projects is a glass blowing unit that was established in 1995. The first of its kind in Palestine, the Unit is managed by an expert and is responsible for the production and distribution of scientific glassware used in laboratories on the BZU campus, in addition to other universities and pharmaceutical companies in Palestine. Besides being cost-efficient, the Unit is capable of producing custom made designs upon request for items not found in the market.

The Faculty is housed in the Science Building, which is equipped with numerous laboratories for physics, chemistry, biology and computer science, built with the support of numerous funders.

Admission

The minimum requirement for enrollment in the Faculty of Science is:

  1. Passing in the required preparatory courses with a minimum grade point average of 70%.
  2. Getting departmental approval.

Graduation Requirements:

A student must complete 128 credit hours to graduate from the undergraduate programs provided by the Faculty of Science. Listed below are the number of credits needed for a major and minor in each department.
