Master Program in Gender and Development
The Institute of Women’s Studies and the Institute of Law have combined efforts to present an academic program that leads to a Master degree in the field of gender, and development. The Institute’s Master’s program in Gender and Development Studies is the first such graduate program in the region.
Aims of the Program
The program aims at developing students’ capabilities in four basic areas by:

Widening and deepening the scope of their theoretical and conceptual knowledge of gender, development and legal issues.

Developing methodological capabilities that depend on critical analysis in evaluating developmental and legislative policies.

Developing the capability to place programs and draw up policies for a wide range of sectors within society in order to shape a developmental process utilizing an in depth research methodology that reveals the needs and obstacles faced by these sectors within Palestinian society.

Developing the capability to envision the legislative process and its continuous impact on social and developmental policies.
Admission Requirements in the M.A. Program
1. B.A in Law or one of the social sciences (in special cases the program could accept B.A. holders of other specializations).
2. Passing the English language aptitude exam or successful completion of an English language course depended by the Program.
3. Practical experience of no less than 2 years in areas of work relevant to Program content.
Conditions for Continuing the M.A. Program

Successful completion of the English language course (by those enrolled in it).

In case of students’ inability to complete successfully the English language course, the student should pass the English language aptitude exam.
M.A. Degree Requirements
Completion of no less than 36 credit hours of the M.A. program distributed as follows:
a. Core Courses: (12 credit hours)

GLAD633 Research Methods in Gender, Development and Law.

b. Elective Courses: (12 credit hours)
GLAD632 Local and Regional Dimensions of Gender, Law and Development: Palestine and the Middle East
GLAD634 Analytical Framework in Gender and Development issues.
GLAD6352 Applied Research in Gender Planning and Policy formulation.
GLAD636 Gender, Democratization and Human Rights
GLAD637 Gender and Economic Relations
GLAD638 Special Topic
GLAD639 Development Policies
* Students can exchange one of the elective courses mentioned above on condition that the Program council agrees beforehand – with another course from any of the other graduate programs.
a. Research Component (6 credit hours) by enrolling in one of the following tracks:
1. Track A : Thesis ( GLAD860 )
2. Track B : Non Thesis
GLAD830 Seminar in Gender and Development.
GLAD831 Seminar in Gender and Law.
d. Completion of six other credit hours according to the Program’s study plan.
