Master Program in Sociology

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology offers a program leading to the MA degree in sociology with a focus on development, social policy, and research. Students may choose between thesis or non-thesis options.

Admission Requirements
A first degree in sociology or anthropology. Holders of degrees in other fields may be admitted in special circumstances but may be required to complete preparatory courses from the BA program in sociology.

Program Requirements
Students must complete 36 credit hours as follows:

a. Core Courses (15 credit hours)

b. Electives Courses (15 credit hours) out of the following list:

* The student may take a maximum of six credit hours (two courses) from other master programs in Birzeit University . Prior approval by the Department is required

c. Research Component: To complete successfully the research component by following track “A” or B

Track “A”: Thesis : SOCI860 ( 6 credit hours)

Track B: Two Seminars (Non Thesis ): (6 credit hours)
