International Cooperation
Norwegian University of Life Science (UMB), Ås Norway
Cooperation between the Faculty of Landscape Architecture and Spatial Planning UMB and the Faculty of Engineering/Birzeit University has been first established in 1997. Two teaching assistant from the Department of Architecture completed their Master Degree in Landscape Architecture at UMB in 2002.
In 2004 a new project was signed which is funded by the Norwegian semi-governmental Institution NUFU. The project is for duration of 5 years and would last until 2009. It includes the fellowships of two Ph.D. students in Landscape Architecture and the support of launching of a new concentration in Landscape Architecture within the existing Master Program of Urban Planning and Design which would be rename as Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture. The new concentration is scheduled to start in the fall of 2007.
Furthermore, the project includes the hosting of an international conference on Landscape Architecture at Birzeit University in the fall of 2007. In addition, the projects support tens of awareness lectures and works on various planning and landscape issues in numerous towns throughout the West Bank.
Dortmund University , Germany
Cooperation between the Faculty of Spatial Planning/Dortmund University and the Faculty of Engineering has been established in 2001. The Faculty of Spatial Planning/Dortmund University has help in the preparation and launching of the Master Program in Urban Planning and Design.
The German Semi-Governmental Organization DAAD has supported exchange of scholarly visits of faculty members to both universities. In addition visits where arranged for numerous students from Urban Planning and Design program at Birzeit University to visit the university of Dortmund in Germany.
A new cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Engineering at Birzeit University and the Faculty of Spatial Planning/Dortmund University has been signed in the summer, 2006 and it lasts for a duration of four years with academic cooperation for the Urban Planning and Design Master's Program and exchange of faculty and students visits.
The University of Rome(La Sapienza), Italy
A cooperation agreement has been signed in the fall, 2006 between the faculties of engineering at Birzeit University and the University of Rome (La Sapienza).
The academic cooperation involve facilitation of faculty member visits to both universities and hosting of at least two senior Birzeit University Engineering students for a summer workshop camp sponsored by the University of Rome (La Sapienza), in Italy.
Additional International Cooperation
Numerous professors from a wide range of universities in Europe, North America, Middle East, and Japan visit the Faculty of Engineering/Birzeit University. Some professors provide technical presentations and workshops, while others visit the departments and laboratories of interest and involve in academic and curriliculia discussion. In addition many engineering faculty members from Birzeit University were invited to give lectures at prominent universities worldwide.
