Academic Council

The Academic Council is formed in the beginning of each academic year, according to the university’s general law of 2005 (Article 32).

The Academic Council is headed by the vice president for academic affairs, with the membership of the undergraduate programs assistant vice president for academic affairs, deans, acting dean of student affairs, director of admission and registration and faculties’ representatives elected annually by the members of the academic body, each according to his/her faculty.

  • To prepare academic regulations which apply on students, upon the recommendation of the University Council.
  • To approve the study plans, curricula and projects subject to modification, or development, or cancelation, which are presented by the faculties’ and institutes’ councils, and by the dean of graduate studies, in case the fields of study are overlapping or share common factors.
  • To approve the granting of certificates to students who have fulfilled the conditions, upon the recommendation of the deans, and the adoption of students’ dismissal from the university for students who deserve it.
  • Graduate Studies Committee chaired by the Dean of Graduate Studies, with the membership of deans and five members of the academic body elected in the Council. The committee is in charge of the graduate programs and its students.
  • Bachelor Programs Committee chaired by the undergraduate programs assistant vice president for academic affairs, with the membership of deans and five members of the academic body elected in the Council. The committee is in charge of the undergraduate programs and its students.
  • The dean of student affairs and director of admission and registration are invited to attend any of the meetings of the above-mentioned two committees to discuss topics related to their work.
  • Any other committees suggested by the council when necessity arises.
  • The five members of the Council in each of the Graduate Studies Committee and the Bachelor Programs Committee are elected by the academic council.
  • Each committee is specialized in the matters referred to it by the council’s president directly and not from outside the council.
  • Committees present their recommendations to the academic council for approval within the council’s mandate during the general meeting.
  • The academic council meets at least once a month, and whenever the need arises.
  • The committees meet whenever necessary in order to facilitate the work of the academic council, upon an invitation by the committees’ heads.
